TOKYO FILMeX Press Conference

If the Tokyo Int'l Film Festival is akin to Tokyo's chaotic, urban sprawl, TOKYO FILMeX is like a carefully and lovingly urban-planned neighbourhood.

I attended the press conference today at the National Film Center. It's a fantastic lineup of films this year. The English texts will be up very soon, but for now you can still see all the titles in English by browsing the Japanese pages through the links on the right. If you happen to be a subscriber to Screen Daily, you can read an overview I wrote here. *Update: The English pages are now up.

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingKurosawa Kiyoshi was in attendance to talk about the screening of his film Retribution (Sakebi, 『叫』) at this year's edition. He's a friend and fan of FILMeX. The cellphone snap is of Kurosawa and Okamoto Mineko, the wife of late director Okamoto Kihachi (she actually produced some of his later films.) She graciously spoke a few words about the 12 title retrospective of her genius husband's work (see my Sept. 11 entry).

And here's an interesting story about an unmade Okamoto film posted on Hoga Central earlier this month.

Glad to see Mrs. Okamoto doing well. Jason's link goes to all September entries, so here is the article that Jason kindly mentioned from my blog:

Thanks, Michi. I should've mentioned that the Okamotos have been friends of FILMeX since the beginning. Back in the second year (2001), there was a mini-tokushû of his films (this year's 12 are all different).
